Bold that survives a plain-text field

Like the other styles here, this is character substitution rather than formatting: 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝 letters are Mathematical Bold characters from Unicode. That is what lets them work in an Instagram bio or a LinkedIn post, neither of which offers a bold button — and it is why the effect survives copy-paste into almost any text field.

Unlike italic, bold does include digits (𝟎–𝟗), so numbers keep the style. Several bold variants exist in Unicode — bold serif, bold sans, bold italic, and bold script — which is why bold text copied from different generators can look subtly different.

Using bold well

Bold works by contrast, and contrast dies with overuse. Typographers give roughly consistent advice: bold a few words to create a scanning anchor, never a whole paragraph — a fully bolded block reads as uniformly heavy, which is to say not emphasized at all. On social posts, one bolded line as a pseudo-heading is usually the most it can carry before it looks like shouting.
