Discord Font Generator
Generate styled text for Discord server nicknames in nineteen Unicode styles. For messages, Discord supports full markdown — bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code and spoilers — and this page covers both, with guidance on which to use where.
Whether you call it discord font generator or discord fonts, this free tool handles it instantly in your browser.
Options
Where styled text actually works on Discord
Styled text is Unicode characters, not a font, so whether it survives depends on the field you paste it into. Discord treats these fields differently.
| Field | Styled text | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Messages | Partly | — | Unicode styles work, but Discord has full markdown support, which is the better option in chat. |
| Server nickname | Works | 32 chars | Styled characters work and are widely used. |
| Username | Rejected | — | Discord restricts usernames to lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. |
| Channel names | Partly | — | Some styled characters are accepted, but Discord lowercases and strips much of what you paste. |
Use Discord's own formatting instead, where you can
Discord has built-in formatting markup. In messages it is the better choice than Unicode styling: it keeps the text as real letters, so search still finds it and screen readers still read it as words.
**text**→ bold*text*→ italic__text__→ underline~~text~~→ strikethrough`text`→ inline code||text||→ spoiler
Before you use it anywhere that matters
A screen reader announces styled characters one at a time by their Unicode name, so a styled bio can be unreadable to anyone using one. Search engines and in-app search generally will not match styled text either. For a display name that is usually an acceptable trade; for anything you want found or read aloud, it is not.

Batch Processing
Enter multiple inputs, one per line. Each line will be processed separately.
How it works
- Your text becomes Unicode characters that already look styled, so Discord renders them with no font support required.
- They work in server nicknames, which allow 32 characters, and in messages.
- Your Discord username is restricted to lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and rejects styled characters.
- In messages Discord supports full markdown, which is the better choice: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, `code` and ||spoiler||.
Use cases
Discord has real formatting — use it in messages
Discord supports markdown, and more of it than most chat apps: bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, inline code, code blocks and spoilers. In a message that is the right tool. It keeps your text as letters, so search works and screen readers work, and it is faster to type than pasting from a generator.
The full set is **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~, `code`, ```code blocks``` and ||spoiler||. They nest, so ***bold italic*** and __*underlined italic*__ both work.
Nicknames are where Unicode styling belongs
Markdown does nothing in a nickname — type **name** and you will see the asterisks. So the per-server nickname, capped at 32 characters, is the one place on Discord where styled Unicode is the only way to get a styled look. This is also, unsurprisingly, where almost everyone uses it.
Your username is a separate field restricted to lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods, and it will never accept styled characters.
Watch out for bots
This is the Discord-specific risk worth knowing. Plenty of servers run moderation bots that read nicknames as plain text, and some are configured to rename or kick accounts using unusual characters — partly because impersonation attempts rely on look-alike Unicode.
Mentions themselves are safe, since they resolve by user ID. But if you are in a server with strict naming rules, a styled nickname can get you auto-renamed, and it is worth checking the rules channel first.

FAQ
How do I format text in Discord without a generator?
Discord supports markdown directly. Two asterisks give **bold**, one gives *italic*, two underscores give __underline__, two tildes give ~~strikethrough~~, backticks give `inline code`, and two pipes give ||a spoiler||. These combine, so ***text*** is bold italic. For messages this is almost always what you want.
Can I change my Discord username to a styled font?
No. Discord restricts usernames to lowercase letters, numbers, underscores and periods. What you can style is your server nickname — the per-server display name, capped at 32 characters — which accepts styled characters freely. Your global display name also accepts them.
Why does markdown beat styled characters in messages?
Markdown leaves your text as ordinary letters and applies formatting on top, so Discord’s search still finds the message and screen readers still read it as words. Styled Unicode replaces the letters, which makes the message unsearchable and turns it into a character-by-character announcement for anyone using assistive technology.
Do styled nicknames break mentions or moderation bots?
Mentions work fine, because they resolve against the user ID rather than the display text. Bots are less predictable: many moderation and role bots match nicknames as plain text, and some auto-kick or rename accounts whose nicknames contain unusual characters. If a server has strict nickname rules, check before styling.
Why do channel names strip my styled characters?
Discord lowercases channel names and removes characters it does not allow in them, so most styled text is stripped or mangled. A few symbols survive, which is why you occasionally see decorated channel names, but the Unicode alphabets here generally do not.
