Twitter Font Generator
Generate styled text for X (formerly Twitter) in nineteen Unicode styles. Works in your display name (50 characters) and bio (160), is rejected in the @handle, and renders in posts โ though styled posts are excluded from X search, which the page explains.
Whether you call it twitter font generator or twitter fonts, this free tool handles it instantly in your browser.
Options
Where styled text actually works on X (Twitter)
Styled text is Unicode characters, not a font, so whether it survives depends on the field you paste it into. X (Twitter) treats these fields differently.
| Field | Styled text | Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display name | Works | 50 chars | Styled characters work and are common here. |
| Bio | Works | 160 chars | Works normally. |
| Handle / @username | Rejected | โ | Limited to letters, numbers and underscores. Styled characters are rejected. |
| Posts | Partly | โ | Renders fine, but styled text is excluded from search results, so a post written in styled characters is effectively unsearchable. |
Before you use it anywhere that matters
A screen reader announces styled characters one at a time by their Unicode name, so a styled bio can be unreadable to anyone using one. Search engines and in-app search generally will not match styled text either. For a display name that is usually an acceptable trade; for anything you want found or read aloud, it is not.

How it works
- Your text becomes Unicode characters that already look bold, italic or script, so X displays them without needing any font support.
- They work in the display name, which allows 50 characters, and in the bio, which allows 160.
- The @handle is restricted to letters, numbers and underscores, so styled characters are rejected there.
- Styled text renders in posts, but X excludes it from search indexing โ a post written in styled characters cannot be found by searching its words.
Use cases
Display name yes, handle never
X has two name fields and they work in opposite ways. The @handle is part of your URL, so it is limited to letters, numbers and underscores and will never accept styled characters. The display name is free text with a 50-character limit, and it accepts anything Unicode offers.
Practically everyone looking for a Twitter font generator wants the display name, and that is the case where this works cleanly and permanently.
Why styled posts disappear from search
This is the part worth understanding before using styled text in posts. X matches search queries against the literal characters in a post. A post that says "announcement" in mathematical script characters does not contain the letters a-n-n-o-u-n-c-e-m-e-n-t as far as the index is concerned, so nobody searching that word will find it.
The same applies to any keyword you might want to be found for, and to hashtags, which stop functioning as hashtags entirely when written in styled characters. For a post you want seen through search, style nothing, or style only a heading line and leave the body plain.
The accessibility cost is real
Screen readers announce styled characters individually by their Unicode names. A display name in bold script is read out as a long string of descriptions rather than as a name, which for some users makes a profile genuinely unidentifiable.
A styled display name is a small cost many people accept. A whole bio or a post thread in styled characters is not โ it excludes a part of your audience for a purely decorative gain.

FAQ
What is the character limit for a styled X display name?
Fifty characters, and each styled character counts as one โ so a styled name fits exactly as much as a plain one. The exceptions are the spaced style, which inserts a real space after every letter and so halves your usable length, and the wide style, whose characters render about twice as broad even though they count as one each.
Why can I not style my @handle?
The handle forms part of your profile URL and is restricted to letters, numbers and underscores. Styled Unicode characters cannot appear in a web address, so X rejects them. The display name above it has no such restriction, which is why styled names are common and styled handles do not exist.
Do styled posts show up in X search?
No. X indexes posts as text, and styled characters are not the letters someone searches for. A post written in script characters is effectively unsearchable โ it will not appear for its own keywords. If reach through search matters, keep the post in ordinary characters and style at most a heading.
Does styled text affect how posts perform?
There is no documented ranking penalty, but there are two indirect costs. Styled text is excluded from search, and it is unreadable to anyone using a screen reader, which narrows your audience. Styled display names are harmless by comparison, which is why they are the usual place people use this.
Will my styled name break anyoneโs ability to mention me?
No. Mentions use the @handle, which is always ordinary characters, so people can still tag you normally regardless of how your display name is styled.
