Adding a third arch, turning n into m.
Fix: n has exactly two arches. Count them as you write.
Pointing the arch tops, so n reads as v or u.
Fix: Arch tops are rounded; valleys reach the baseline cleanly.
Letting the second arch be wider than the first.
Fix: Both arches are the same width. Practise "nn" to calibrate.

About the letter n
n is the base shape of the arch family. m is n with an extra hump, and h is l plus a single n arch, so a reliable n makes three letters easier. It is usually taught immediately after the loop family for that reason.
The most common confusion is not with m but with u. The two are the same curve turned upside down: n is rounded at the top and open at the bottom, u is rounded at the bottom and open at the top. Writers in a hurry flatten both and the distinction disappears β which is exactly why "nu" and "un" are standard drills.
Capital N is the lowercase shape scaled to full height, making it one of the more intuitive cursive capitals. The arches stay rounded; a pointed capital N reads as a capital V.
